Rytis Lebedys: Inside Vinted’s Approach to Scalable and Reliable Network Management

Behind Vinted’s global second-hand fashion platform is a complex, high-performance network that must keep millions of users connected daily. Managing this infrastructure requires precision engineering, automation, and a constant focus on reliability. At BalticNOG 2025, Rytis Lebedys, Site Reliability Engineer at Vinted and member of the Foundations team, will share how the company’s network is designed, tested, and maintained to meet these demands at scale.

With expertise in data center networks, programming, and automation, Rytis brings a hands-on approach to improving efficiency and resilience. His work goes beyond maintaining stability — continuously finding ways to simplify operations while enhancing performance. He is also deeply interested in information security, from penetration testing to CTF competitions, which adds insight into anticipating and preventing operational issues.

Configuration-as-Code and Automation in Practice

A central part of Vinted’s strategy is its configuration-as-code model. Treating network configurations like software means they can apply principles such as version control, peer review, and automated validation before deployment. This reduces human error and ensures that changes are safe before they go live. Rytis will explain how this approach, combined with automation tests, has become essential for a platform that operates at such a large scale.

High availability and throughput are equally critical. Vinted employs redundancy strategies, routing optimization, and hardware tuning to ensure the network remains responsive under heavy load. Rytis will also describe how the company integrates core services like Kubernetes and NAT into the network layer, allowing infrastructure and applications to operate seamlessly.

Foundations That Support Growth

The hardware and Network Operating Systems (NOS) behind Vinted’s network form the foundation for its scalability. In his talk, Rytis will outline the key decisions and trade-offs in selecting and managing these systems, ensuring they can evolve alongside the company’s growth. Attendees will gain practical insights into how a fast-moving technology company builds a network supporting rapid innovation and long-term stability.

Rytis Lebedys has built his career on improving the efficiency and reliability of large-scale systems. At BalticNOG 2025, he will go beyond theory, offering concrete examples of how Vinted keeps its network ready for the demands of a global audience.
